English film and TV actor Carol Hawkins signs with Oak Tree Books
Best known for her roles in the Carry On Film series, plus classic British comedies Please, Sir! and Porridge
Carry On, Carol will be published in 2026.

Carol Hawkins has signed a deal with Oak Tree Books to publish her autobiography. The star of two classic ‘Carry On’ films (Carry on Abroad and Carry on Behind), as well as roles on British comedy classics Porridge and Please, Sir!, Carol Hawkins became a star of stage and screen throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The manuscript was acquired by Oak Tree Books directly from the author.
“I have been writing it on and off for years now, and I suppose it was a sort of hobby to begin with,” says Carol Hawkins. “I am very pleased that at last my book is going to be published, as I thought I would never be satisfied that it was finished.”
Carry On Carol is set to be published in 2026 and chronicles Carol Hawkins’ life from her childhood in Hertfordshire, through her time in the limelight working with British comedy greats like The Two Ronnies, Les Dawson, Kenneth Williams, Sid James, and many more, to her life today.
“I sort ot lead a double life,” Carol adds. “During my research on my acting career, looking through piles of press cuttings and photographs, I found it amazing how much work I have actually done and the wonderful actors I have worked with.” She continues: “I have written about some situations I found myself in, which were more than distressing, and have been very honest with my thought processes and in a way I found it very therapeutic to write and re-live those chapters in my life.”
